Our House

Were We Live

It's a humble house, quite small, but the neighbors are friendly. They know the children and bring fruit and things for them. We only have 2 bedrooms, one for the boys (and Lina!) and the other for the girls, but we all fit for now. We have a nice patio, a decent kitchen, where our wonderful cook prepares our nutritious and delicious meals. There are places to sit, and to study, and to play. There is a large open space out back where the children play (with supervision). It is near enough to walk to the Plaza Grande and schools are nearby. We are happy here. It's our home!

Good News!

Our wonderful friends, a generous and kind Mexican family, have bought the house we are living in. They did it because they love us and want us to have a stable, long term place to live. They have been helping us with part of the rent, and other donations over the last few years. They know us well, trust us and we trust and love them. They have agreed that the house will be ours to use, as long as we are running a safe and kind children's home in it. This is really really good news for us!

Since we started Casa Hogar Ave Fenix 10 years ago, we have rented 4 different houses. In each case the house needed a lot of work which we found a way to do ourselves, searching for volunteers and hard to find funds. Almost as soon as it was done, the land-lord told us he needed the house for a family member, and we had to move out!

This time we have done only the very minimum of very necessary repairs! And the landlord has been kind, but we knew he wanted to sell the house from the beginning. Now it has happened and we can keep on living here!

We are feeling much more secure about our future here. We are still working out some details about what the owners expect from us. They, of course, want to approve the work we will do to repair and expand. We hope their contractor thinks it is safe and practical to add a second story to part of the house. This would make our home more comfortable and allow us to serve more children.

First, repair the roof!

Once we are clear on the work we will be doing, we will start an official building fund campaign. Of course, if you don't want to wait, and you'd like to donate now specifically for the house, just go to the donate button and when you donate, monthly or one time, just add a note that you want it to go specifically to the building campaign. We promise to keep it separate, ready to go. Maybe YOU can be the first?
